Jubilo Community Choir: Open your voice, find harmony, build the common song of the city.

Jubilo Community Choir is a new initiative of Jubilo Foundation, to which we invite everyone who would like to build a space for exchange – meeting – action – voice. Together, we will attempt to build a group of active citizens who will meet with each other, learn from each other and together with the leaders attempt to build an open and democratic platform for exchange.

Thanks to the experience of the leaders of the group we will build a space for direct exchange of music and songs. We will create a group whose repertoire will be based on different pieces, from folk to pop music, to improvisations, and build a space of expression through musical language. The songs that will be offered will come from different traditions – from traditional monodic and polyphonic songs, to readaptations of contemporary songs. One of the goals will be, under the guidance of the leaders, to write and directly compose simple songs that reflect the suggestions of the choir participants and their relationship to the world around them.

In the Jubilo Community Choir we will open our voices together, find harmony and group rhythm, recall melodies that our mothers or grandmothers used to sing to us, write our own lyrics and build our own songs. We will learn songs from different cultures and generations, combine them with each other, and share our own.

At a later stage, we will share the created materials in public spaces through presentations, participation in urban events, flash-mobs involving residents in active participation. We will enter the urban space to share with others what we have built, to activate people to meet, connect and participate in the cultural life of the city. We will become part of the urban community, participating in artistic events, organizing meetings on the Odra, in parks, markets, galleries, libraries, hospitals, in public spaces shared by the Wroclaw community.

No previous experience is required to participate in the Community Choir. You don’t have to be a professional singer to take part.We invite all those interested in singing and becoming active in the cultural life of the city, all those who want to create the common voice of the city. The goal of the Choir is to create an open, intercultural, intergenerational platform for direct exchange and collaboration regardless of ability, age, gender, nationality, social standing. Participants will be active elements of change and inspiration for other residents to join through real action, in the cultural sphere of the city.
